Immature Plt % | Limitation of the Immature Platelet Fraction (IPF)-May be less reliable when the platelet count is less than 10×103/uL due to statistical imprecision. The IPF value provides an assessment of the Bone Marrow production status. It is useful in differentiating Thrombocytopenia caused by platelet destruction/consumption versus decreased production. It also helps to determine the imminent release of platelets and can be therefore a helpful parameter in Chemotherapy and Bone marrow transplant patients. ELEVATED IPF value: · When the bone marrow is in a state of over production such as when increased destruction and consumption are the underlying issue. · When the marrow is recovering post chemotherapy or bone marrow transplant. LOW to NORMAL IPF value: · When the bone marrow in not responding and is in a decreased state of production. References: Sysmex America Inc.
