Quantiferon-TB Gold

eDH Procedure Code(s)

LAB3382 QuantiFERON-TB Gold

Test Information

Screens for latent tuberculosis infection by quantification of stimulated interferon-gamma release.

Collection Information

Must collect blood in QuantiFERON TB Gold Plus collection tubes. No substitutes permitted.

Collect 1 mL blood by venipuncture in QFT Plus collection tubes in the following order: Grey, Green, Yellow, Purple. These tubes are calibrated to collect 1 mL of blood. If level of blood is outside the range of the black mark on the side of the tube label, obtain another sample.

Please note these tubes fill slowly – hold the tube on the needle for 2-3 seconds after flow ceases. If using a butterfly needle, the attached tubing must be filled with blood before drawing into the QFT tubes. This is done by drawing 1-2 mL of blood into a plain discard tube (not included in QFT kit) before filling QFT tubes.

Immediately after filling tubes, invert tubes 10 times to ensure the inner surface of the tube is coated with blood. This helps ensure accurate testing. Do not shake tubes vigorously.
