Additional Specimen Instructions

This orderable test includes a plasma glucose measurement 1 hour following an oral 50 gram glucose load. Fasting is NOT required for the gestational diabetes 1 hour screen.

1.Obtain the 50 gram glucose drink from the laboratory. 2.Instruct the patient to drink the entire volume and begin timing once the patient has finished. 3.One hour after completing the beverage draw a gray top tube.

Plasma glucose concentrations greater than or equal to 135 g/dL will be flagged as high in the electronic medical record.
