Additional Specimen Instructions

Expectorated and/or induced sputa samples are the only acceptable specimens for this assay, absolute MINIMUM volume is 2mL (more is preferred).

This test is offered during the day shift 7 days a week. Specimens received after 12pm will be run the following day.

This order will always have an AFB culture ordered.
Infectious disease approval required prior to testing.
Testing can be performed on direct sputum sediment (performed in lab)

When pulmonary Tuberculosis is suspected AIRBORNE PRECAUTIONS ARE REQUIRED.
