Order when there is a high clinical suspicion of pulmonary tuberculosis.

Expectorated and/or induced sputa samples are the only acceptable specimens for MTB PCR, absolute MINIMUM volume is 2mL (more is preferred).

This order will always have an AFB culture ordered.

Infectious disease approval required prior to testing.

Testing is performed on direct sputum sediment (performed in lab)

When pulmonary Tuberculosis is suspected AIRBORNE PRECAUTIONS ARE REQUIRED.

This test is offered daily:

- Monday - Friday cutoff is 6:30 pm. Specimens received after this time will be run the next day.

- Saturday & Sunday cutoff is 12:00 pm. Specimens received after this time will be run the next day.
