Additional Specimen Instructions

Specimens must be collected in an Eswab. This test screens only for Neisseria gonorrhoeae (GC). Consider ordering "GC/Chlamydia Gene Amp" test (LAB 3555) which is a more sensitive test than culture and also detects Chlamydia infection.

Culture for GC should be limited to 1) cases where patients with GC infection are thought to have failed therapy and 2) pediatric medicolegal cases as an adjunct to molecular testing.
