Muscle biopsy specimens require special handling and should be prearranged with Pathology. Pathology may be on site to collect and manage preparation of the specimen. Contact the Surgical Pathology Lab at 603-650-7216.

Transport fresh tissue immediately . Maintain specimen on wet-ice. Deliver ASAP to Laboratory Specimen Receiving (LSR), BORWELL LEVEL 4

Additional Testing Information

Purpose:
To determine primary muscle disease, neuromuscular disease, inflammatory muscle disease, and malignant hyperthermia.

Test performed:
Light microscopy, including fiber typing and histochemical analysis. Electron microscopy, when indicated. Preparation: Place tissue on saline soaked gauze in a sterile container.
Non-Lebanon Campus or Outreach Clients: Schedule STAT courier to transport specimen to DHMC. Maintain specimen on wet ice.
