Specimen Collection Information
Label container with patient's full name and date of birth or MRN (if available). Indicate specimen source.
- Specimens submitted in for light microscopy should be placed in 10% neutral buffered formalin need to be fully submerged with the optimal approximate specimen volume of 10:1 or higher
- Specimens submitted for immunofluorescence (IF) should be placed in saline or Michels Transport Medium
- Specimens for electron microscopy (EM) should be placed in gluteraldehyde

Specimen Transport Temperature
Transport fresh tissue immediately . Tissue in Michels Tranport Media – ambient. Deliver ASAP to Laboratory Specimen Receiving (LSR), BORWELL LEVEL 4.
Specimen Stability
Transport fresh tissue immediately . (Refrigerate if delayed.) Tissue in Michels Tranport Media – ambient.

In addition to formalin container, collect tissues for electron microscopy (EM) and immunofluorescence (IF).
Three biopsy specimens are submitted to the lab for the following studies:
- Routine Surgical Pathology (light microscopy)(performed at DH)
- Electron Microscopy (prepared by Mayo Medical Laboratory, review and diagnosis by DH)
- Immunofluorescence (IF) (performed at DH)
