When placing the 'Surgical Pathology' order be sure to note if tissue needs to be submitted for Cytogenetics or Molecular Pathology testing. (If indicated - place additional orders for this testing in e-DH.)  Also note if foot prints are requested.

Note:  If submitting a Placenta or POC sample that does not require Pathology examination* - order LAB1906 - OB HOLD.  Samples submitted as an OB HOLD will be reviewed upon reciept in lab and if needed, the submitting provider requesting a LAB 1900 order for processing.

 

* Policy 2960 Placenta Pathology Procedure - BP  - “Pathology examination of the placenta is ordered for all deliveries other than uncomplicated, term, singleton births (i.e. Apgars equal to or greater than 8 at five minutes; no fetal/neonatal, placental or cord abnormalities; newborn admitted to normal newborn nursery; no history of maternal complications).”

Non-Lebanon Campus or Outreach Clients: Submit via courier to DHMC. Maintain specimen on wet ice.
