Additional Specimen Instructions

Qualitative detection of IgG and IgM class antibodies to Borrelia-specific antigens  VlsE, VlsE C6 and OspC.  CDC guidelines specify a two-step diagnostic approach. A screening ELISA will be performed first followed by a confirmatory testing.

Confirmation of presumptive positive Lyme IgM/IgG antibody screen results will be performed using a second enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) which uses Borrelia antigens distinct from the initial screening ELISA.
