Specimen Stability

Ambient, 14 days in preservative

Frozen specimens are not acceptable.

Fresh stool must be put into preservative within 24hrs of collection

Additional Specimen Instructions

Specimens must be received in parapak (10% formalin/PVA) transport, 2 vial system.

Please include any travel history.

Stool specimens must not contain barium, mineral oil, urine, or drug.

Single specimens or up to 2 specimens will be accepted.

No routine specimens for parasite exam will be accepted from patients hospitalized for more than 3 days without approval by pathologist.

 

Microsporidia, Cyclospora and Isospora must be specifically requested (LAB 3715).
